14 Day Rwanda and Tanzania – Primates and Wildlife

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & City Tour

Your adventure begins upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, where you’ll be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. After freshening up, embark on a guided city tour of Kigali. Visit the bustling Kimironko Market to experience local life and shop for souvenirs. Next, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history and honour the victims of the 1994 genocide. Conclude the day with a delicious welcome dinner at a top-rated restaurant before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park & Cultural Experience

After breakfast, set off on a scenic drive north to Volcanoes National Park, home to Rwanda’s famous mountain gorillas. The journey offers breathtaking views of rolling hills and lush landscapes. Upon arrival in Musanze, enjoy lunch before heading to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where you’ll engage in traditional Rwandan dance, music, and storytelling. Learn about the local customs and way of life before settling into your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Rise early for an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience. After a briefing at the park headquarters, join expert guides on a trek through the dense forest to locate a gorilla family. Once found, spend one magical hour observing them as they play, eat, and interact in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to your lodge for relaxation. You may choose to explore Musanze town in the afternoon or unwind with a massage at the lodge. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest & Canopy Walk

After breakfast, depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park, a haven for primates and birds. The scenic drive through Rwanda’s countryside includes stops for photography and a lunch break. Upon arrival, embark on the thrilling canopy walk, where you’ll stroll on a suspended bridge high above the forest floor, offering spectacular views of the lush jungle. Afterwards, check in at your lodge and enjoy dinner before a restful night.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & Return to Kigali

Wake up early for a guided chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe Forest. Track these energetic primates as they swing through the trees and display fascinating behaviours. After the trek, return to your lodge for breakfast, then drive back to Kigali. En route, enjoy an optional visit to the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza, where you’ll learn about Rwanda’s royal heritage. Arrive in Kigali in the evening and relax at your hotel.

Day 6: Flight to Arusha, Tanzania

After breakfast, transfer to Kigali International Airport for your flight to Arusha, Tanzania’s safari hub. Upon arrival, your guide will transfer you to your hotel, where you can rest after the journey. Spend the evening at leisure, exploring Arusha’s local markets or enjoying dinner at a fine restaurant in preparation for your Tanzanian safari adventure.

Day 7: Game Drive in Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its giant baobab trees and large elephant herds. Enjoy a full-day game drive, spotting wildlife such as lions, zebras, giraffes, and leopards. Stop at a scenic spot for a picnic lunch before continuing the adventure. In the evening, check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and relax under the African sky.

Day 8: Lake Manyara National Park – Walking Safari & Game Drive

Today, explore the diverse ecosystem of Lake Manyara National Park. Begin with a guided walking safari, where you can see wildlife up close and learn about the smaller creatures of the bush. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive to spot flamingos, hippos, elephants, and the park’s famous tree-climbing lions. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Transfer to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, drive to the legendary Serengeti National Park, enjoying a game drive en route. This vast savannah is home to abundant wildlife, including cheetahs, wildebeests, and zebras. Check-in at your lodge and enjoy an evening game drive before dinner. Experience the sounds of the wild as you fall asleep in your safari lodge.

Days 10 & 11: Full Safari in Serengeti National Park

Spend two full days exploring Serengeti’s vast plains. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, tracking the Big Cats—lions, leopards, and cheetahs. If visiting during the Great Migration season, witness thousands of wildebeests and zebras crossing the plains. Picnic lunches in the wild allow you to soak in the breathtaking scenery. Return to your lodge each evening to relax and share stories around the campfire.

Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater Safari

After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient volcanic caldera teems with wildlife, including black rhinos, elephants, and buffalos. Enjoy a thrilling game drive, followed by a visit to the Olduvai Gorge, one of the world’s most important paleoanthropological sites. After a full day of adventure, transfer to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 13: Arusha & Maasai Cultural Experience

Return to Arusha and explore the city’s vibrant markets and cultural sites. Visit a Maasai village to learn about their unique traditions, participate in traditional dances, and admire their beadwork. Enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant in the evening, where you can reflect on your incredible safari experience. For those interested, optional nightlife activities are available.

Day 14: Departure

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before transferring to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight home. Depart with unforgettable memories of your Rwanda and Tanzania primates and wildlife safari adventure.
