Set your mind free as you explore and discover why Uganda’s diverse landscapes are so spectacular and home to the Mountain Gorilla.  This is a surreal, magical place where you will become one with your surroundings and where days are filled with wildlife encounters, whilst also focusing on your yoga practice.

We will be teaming up with Uganda Adventure Safaris, accompanied by their professional guide, Chris Ndyabagye, for the duration of the retreat. Chris will be showing us what makes Uganda so special as we hike the Murchison Falls and drive through 5 National Parks for a chance to see Elephant, Buffalo, Giraffe, Lion, Hyena and Leopard, just to name a few. We will set out on foot to trek Gorilla and Chimpanzee, which will for sure be one of the most memorable experiences of your life. This is truly a unique experience as only a few people get to spend time with these beauties. There are just over a thousand mountains gorillas left in the world, and half of them are found in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where we will be trekking these gentle giants. There are 18 gorilla families that have been habituated for tourism purposes, and 17 of those are tracked in Bwindi. Uganda is also one of the only 3 countries in the world where you can do Gorilla Trekking.

Yoga sessions depends on the day’s activities and travel time. Since most mornings start quite early due to all the amazing activities on offer and also the best time to view wildlife, you can expect a beautiful yoga flow most afternoons overlooking the jungle. Sessions will be a combination of pranayama, vinyasa flows and guided meditation – finding and creating space within. The therapeutic moves will allow you to go inward and become familiar with your own body as you link your breath and connect with nature. Here you will feel as if time is standing still, where living in the present moment is the only option. Your mind and body relaxed. The practice promotes a calming and meditative state that will benefit beginners to experienced students.

Meals

In Uganda, the staple food is Matooke (cooking bananas). Other food crops include cassava (manioc), sweet potatoes, white potatoes, yams, cabbage, onions, pumpkins, tomatoes, beans, peas and groundnuts (peanuts). Some fruits such as oranges, paw-paws (papayas), lemons, and pineapples, are also grown. Meals at the lodges will be a variety of local and international cuisine. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we will see if the lodges will be able to assist. But with all the fresh local ingredients, I am sure everyone’s taste buds will be catered for.

Physical Fitness

Due to trekking through the dense forests in search of Chimpanzee and Gorilla, and trekking time taking anything from 2-8 hours, a fairly good level of fitness is required. Itinerary

Day 1Arrival and transfer to the hotel

On this day, you will be met by our company driver guide early in the morning from your point of pick up and head to your hotel to relax as you wait for the next day’s adventure. Diner and overnight at lake Victoria hotel.

Day 2Transfer to Murchison falls and yoga session – 227km (5hrs)

We will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to Murchison falls National park for a 45 minutes hike to the top of the falls for the pictures. After the hike to the falls we will check-in to the lodge. We will end the day with a beautiful outdoor Yoga session in the warm light of the setting sun, Let yourself be guided through some soft and smooth movements. After two days of traveling your bodies will appreciate some stretches, attention and love.
End the session with a guided meditation to ground yourselves and arrive consciously in this new adventure. Listen inside, Is there any part of your body that needs more attention? Are there any doubts or fears that arise from this new situation that you find yourself in? Now is the time to look at them and invite them into the warm love of your soul and the warmth of the sun. Day 3 Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

An early wake rise by 6.00 am, take a quick cup of coffee or tea with a snack to warm your tummy and set out for the early game drive in Murchison Falls National Park is divided by River Nile into the south and northern region. The northern part that is largely covered by savannah and woodland support a lot more volume and variety of animals compared to the southern region which has a bigger chunk covered by forest. For that matter, therefore, the game drives are done in the northern area of Murchison Falls. The early start offers a better chance to find elusive predators such as animals such as Lions, Hyenas, Leopard, and Jackal because they are still out actively hunting. Explore the game trails towards the Lake Albert delta which is concentrated with big game such as the Elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, and so many Antelope. Enjoy the beautiful savannah landscape that is immersed with plenty of life and wonderful scenery. The game drive will last for 4 hours, and you will return to the lodge breakfast and relax. After lunch set out for a 2hr boat cruise which sets off at Paraa, going upstream to the base of the Murchison Falls. Boat ride offers an array of wildlife sightings. Crocodile, Hippos, and lizards are a common sight throughout the cruise. Big game such as Buffaloes, Elephants and Antelopes can also be sighted drinking and cooling off the heat by the river banksl. Day 4Transfer to Kibale forest and yoga session – 244km (8hrs)

After arriving at our next lodge we will spend the afternoon connection with each other in a Yoga class that consists of beautifully chosen partner asanas. Moving is beautiful, but moving together even more. Before we head over to the dinner table you are invited to sink in again and reflect on the last days, all the new experiences and impressions you sucked in. Your Yoga Teacher will help you travel through body and mind using the power of your breath. Dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee forest guesthouse.

Day 5Chimpanzee trekking and yoga session​

Assemble at the park headquarters for briefing and then go for the most popular activity in this park which is Chimpanzee tracking. Chimpanzees are man’s closet cousins though they are one of the most threatened primate’s species. More primates like Black and white Columbus monkeys, L’Hoest Monkeys, Grey cheecked Mangabey, Red tailed monkeys, bush babies, pottos and many bird species like the yellow spotted nicator, rumped tinker bird, Little greenbul, green breasted pitta, the crowned eagle, black bee eater and mammals like Elephants can be seen in this trek. Have lunch and relax for some time. You will return to the lodge for lunch after which you will have a yoga session gazing over the stunning view of the crater lakes.
We will move our bodies, stretch those limbs, flow through movements using our own rhythm of breath. Communicate with us. Are you feeling tired and in need of relaxation for your mind and muscles? Are you feeling stiff from sitting and observing and wish for movement and power? Your Yoga teacher will be happy to adjust the class to your needs. Crater lakes. Deep blue gateways to something that is unknown. Silent and peaceful they will be laying there in front of us. We invite you to use this beautiful environment to travel within. Where is your source of silence and peace? Find yourself a comfortable spot, tune in with your breath and explore. Dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee forest guesthouse.

Day 6Transfer to Queen Elizabeth – yoga session -103km (2hrs)

After a relaxed breakfast, We will focus on the journey into power, full-body sweat and full power practice with assisting from your mind and full muscle stretching creating more good tensity in the class to create room for yoga benefits, Meditation Asana and full-body rest
We will later have lunch and drive to Queen Elizabeth National park and check in to our lodge for dinner and overnight Park View safari lodge.

Day 7Transfer to Bwindi – 64km (4hrs)

After your morning breakfast, We will start driving to Bwindi Impenetrable forest with a wide game View en route in Ishasha on the lookout for the tree climbing Lions and other Savannah wildlife species for 2-3 hours like elephants, buffaloes, hyenas and leopards. Lunch en-route as you proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park. On arrival check in to your lodge for Dinner and Overnight at: Bakiga Lodge

Day 8Gorilla trekking experience.

We will have breakfast and then drive to the park headquarters by 7 am for briefing about your gorilla trekking experience before you set off for this remarkable experience of searching for the famous mountain gorillas. The activity takes 2- 9 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in the jungle however the thrill of encountering these humble and gentle giants erases the poor memories you went through while finding them. While looking out for the gorillas except to meet a few other forest species such as monkeys, forest elephants duikers, birds and many more. We will then check out of Bwindi to drive to lake bunyonyi for late check in and dinner at: Arcadia lodge.

Day 9Full day Yoga session

After a relaxed breakfast we will start our day with some simple Asanas to wake up the body. You’re invited to let yourself fall and explore the magical world of Acro Yoga. Learn how to fly. Learn how to carry the world on your feet. In several units you will get to know basic exercises to create trust, strengthen your balance and get to know yourself and others better. All levels are welcome, we will start from the beginning and grow together.
Acro Yoga is a fusion of Yoga, Acrobatic and Thai Massage. In this beautiful practice we have to work together in groups. Our principles will be honesty, acceptance and trust. Without those we will not be able to fly together. Be gentle to yourself and others and communicate openly with the group.
Every Acro Yoga session will end with a guided Thai Massage within the group to give thanks and love to our bodies.
Use this day to follow your needs and do good to yourself.
There are facilities in the lodge to relax and take a break from traveling and exploring.

Day 10Transfer to Entebbe 410km (8hrs)

After coming back to Entebbe there will be enough time to share and end this beautiful adventure together. Transfer to the airport as you say bye to the pearl of Africa.
